Sign into the GIS Customer Portal

After you complete the sign up process at the Virtual Server Signup Page, you will receive an Email with your GIS Portal login password. You can then go to the Customer Portal Sign In Page to access your newly provisioned Virtual Server's IP Address information and initial user account credentials.

Retrieve your Virtual Server's login information

You may now click on the "Retrieve Virtual Server Details" link, and you will see the server's IP Address, and initial login account password. Note that you MUST log in to the server via SSH, using the giscust user account and password given. Root access via SSH is not permitted by default! (Once you have logged in as giscust, you may su to root, the password is 'root').

Connect via SSH

You may now log in to your server via SSH. If you are using Windows, we recommend the free PuTTY SSH client, available here. Once you open PuTTY, type in the IP address from the Customer Portal page, and ensure that SSH on port 22 is checked, and click connect. You may then enter 'giscust' as the username, and the password from the Customer Portal Virtual Server Details page (this is NOT the same as your portal login password).

If you are using Mac OS X, you already have what you need. Open Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities), and simply type: ssh giscust@<ip address> and press return. When it prompts you for your password, enter the temporary password from the Customer Portal Virtual Server Details page (this is NOT the same as your portal login password).
